Despite outshooting the Idaho Steelheads 42-21, the Las Vegas Wranglers fell 3-2 tonight, ending the team’s nine-game winning streak.

A scoreless first period left the 10-4 shot advantage with the Wranglers, but just 58 seconds into the second, Steelheads defenseman Jace Coyle scored to take the 1-0 lead. Idaho turned around and tallied a second goal 41 seconds later off the stick of forward Ian Watters, and another goal midway through the period by forward Ben Ondrus put the Wranglers in a 3-0 hole at the end of the second.

Wranglers right wing Sean Wiles put the team on the board early into the third, and a five-on-three power play goal from forward Andrew Sarauer made it a one-goal game for Idaho in the final 11:34 of the period. With Las Vegas unable to capitalize on one last power play opportunity, and Wranglers goaltender Jody O’Neill pulled for the man advantage in the final minutes, the Steelheads took the 3-2 win. The contest was the first loss for the Wranglers since Wednesday, Jan. 30.

The Wranglers take on the Bakersfield Condors on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 7:05 p.m. The team then hits the road for three games against the Alaska Aces before returning for a three-game weekend series against the San Francisco Bulls and Colorado Eagles starting Friday, March 1.
